Prabal Gurung Spring/Summer 2026 / SS26 at New York Fashion Week
At New York Fashion Week, designer Prabal Gurung unveiled his Spring/Summer 2026 collection entitled “Angels in America”. Staged at St. Bartholomew’s Church on Park Avenue, the presentation carried a reflective and almost spiritual atmosphere. Gurung described the collection as emerging from “a place of deep reflection, not just about beauty, but the world we’re living in, this fractured world, where hope seems to be the most radical form of resistance.” This philosophical starting point framed the runway as more than fashion—it became a meditation on resilience, identity, and belonging.
Gurung’s inspiration stemmed from deeply personal sources, including his memoir Walk Like a Girl, his Nepalese heritage, and his ongoing mission to celebrate marginalized communities. By integrating trans, non-binary, and people of color into the show’s narrative and casting, he delivered inclusivity through design rather than slogans. Symbolism, setting, and garment construction worked together to amplify his message: fashion as a tool for empowerment and social reflection.
Visually, Prabal Gurung SS26 / Spring/Summer 2026 collection emphasized dramatic contrasts in silhouette and proportion. Fitted torsos and high waists gave way to voluminous hems, sweeping backs, and sculptural skirts. Eveningwear featured strapless gowns and architectural details, while softer looks introduced fluidity and comfort. Knit openwork blouses layered over wide-leg trousers and relaxed suiting softened Gurung’s traditionally polished style, offering versatility that blurred the line between daywear and evening elegance.
Color and texture added emotional depth to Prabal Gurung SS26 / Spring/Summer 2026 collection. While heavy fabrics like brocade and taffeta grounded the designs, airy chiffons and lacework offered lightness and movement. Gurung used bold shades—hot pink, coral, and lavender—not as accents but as central elements, signaling optimism as resistance in challenging times. The result was a collection that balanced drama and wearability, proving once again why Prabal Gurung remains a defining voice in contemporary fashion.
