Designed by Eli Russell Linnetz in Venice Beach, California, ERL is proud to present its latest made in California collection, “Surplus”.

For generations, the surplus store has occupied a deep corner of the American consciousness. A repository of the excess. Leftovers and unused ephemera of the national machine. Dusty sanctuaries housing the subsidized wears of forgotten eras. There, the scraps and tatters of times of war and peace became the uniform basics for those without uniform. Standardized produce transformed into customized dressing for the rebels and dreamers of innumerable eras of California life and style.

ERL surplus emerges from an echo chamber of past and present, a surreal collision of imagery across eras, crafting patchwork patterns through threadbare fatigues and faded insignia. Its pieces pulled out of time, the tradition now continues through ERL’s lens—a contemporary surplus depot where military overflow becomes California banner wear.

Through meticulous deconstruction and reconstruction, ERL reinterprets surplus stock through a distinctly Californian lens. Hand-dyed heavyweight fleece emerges in sun-faded khakis and deep olive tones, each piece bearing the lived-in patina of countless stories. Artisanal Patchwork transforms vintage camouflage into contemporary armor – thrashed jersey panels colliding with contrast topstitching in deliberate chaos. Custom tank and aircraft graphics blur the lines between documentary and fantasy, screen-printed onto cotton that’s been aged by Venice beach artisans until it feels rescued from forgotten footlockers. Donegal wool sweaters feature intarsia military motifs knitted by hand, while over dyed dead stock fabrics give new life to forgotten textiles.
