Maria Grazia Chiuri Returns to Rome for a Fendi Couture Tribute to Karl Lagerfeld. Maria Grazia Chiuri marked her debut Fendi Couture Collection for FW26 / Fall/Winter 2026-2027 collection with an emotional return to Rome, the city where she began her fashion career alongside Karl Lagerfeld, who served as Fendi’s creative director for more than five decades. Presented at the National Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art, the show celebrated Lagerfeld’s extraordinary legacy while highlighting the enduring relationship between fashion, craftsmanship, and contemporary art.

Fendi Couture Collection for FW26 / Fall/Winter 2026-2027 collection paid homage to his influence through subtle design references and the revival of After un Percorso di Lavoro. Fendi/Karl Lagerfeld 1985. After Steps Through Work, the groundbreaking exhibition that first explored the dialogue between fashion and art in 1985. Following the runway presentation, guests were invited to experience a reimagined version of Lagerfeld’s historic 1985 exhibition, offering a contemporary perspective on one of Fendi’s most significant creative milestones. To further enrich the event, Fendi premiered Love Monster, an original short film directed by Valeria Golino and starring Leila George and Pietro Castellitto. The film explored themes of desire and emotion, reinforcing the maison’s commitment to storytelling beyond the runway.

At the heart of the collection was the concept of the labyrinth, which Chiuri described as a metaphor for the creative process. Drawing inspiration from Fendi’s historic Labyrinth toile, an artisanal motif deeply rooted in the house’s heritage, she reinterpreted the pattern across a series of couture looks. Intricate craftsmanship was complemented by elegant swish collars, while cascading fringing on collars, sleeves, and hems introduced graceful movement and rich texture throughout the collection.

The collection balanced structure with lightness through luxurious materials and refined detailing. Delicate sheer fabrics and gossamer-like embellishments created an ethereal, floating effect, contrasting beautifully with the richness of velvet, which added depth and sophistication to the silhouettes. A muted monochromatic palette of soft neutrals allowed the exceptional craftsmanship, intricate construction, and couture techniques to remain the central focus of every look.

Reflecting Chiuri’s contemporary vision of dressing, Fendi Couture FW26 / Fall/Winter 2026-2027 runway featured both men’s and women’s looks, emphasizing fluid tailoring and a modern approach to couture. The collection also reinterpreted Fendi’s menswear codes within a couture context, combining the house’s signature furs as an essential part of its DNA with impeccable tailoring, bespoke craftsmanship, and refined sartorial silhouettes. Together, the collection offered a thoughtful celebration of Fendi’s past while presenting a confident vision for the future of couture.
