Gieves & Hawkes Reopens Historic Savile Row Flagship Store Following Major Refurbishment

LONDON, 1ST SEPTEMBER 2026 – Bastion of British tailoring Gieves & Hawkes announces the reopening of the historic flagship Store at No. 1 Savile Row, following an extensive refurbishment that brings renewed energy to one of the most important streets in British menswear.

The newly refurbished 7,000sq ft store has been designed by Argent Design with a clear focus on preserving the character and heritage of the Grade II listed building while creating a more contemporary and welcoming environment for clients. The store will showcase the full breadth of the Gieves & Hawkes offering across Bespoke, Made-to-Measure, Ready-to-Wear and Military.

Original architectural details have been carefully restored and enhanced throughout the space, including traditional wall panelling and beading, refinished timber floors and a new Portland stone entrance floor laid in a historically appropriate keystone pattern. Original plaster cornices have also been restored and redecorated, while new detailing has been introduced in keeping with the building’s period character.

The interior aesthetic draws upon Gieves & Hawkes’ longstanding naval and military heritage, with bespoke joinery, furniture and display pieces incorporating subtle rope motifs reminiscent of British naval uniforms. British craftsmanship has been central to the project, with the refurbishment sourced, designed and manufactured in Britain, from the stone, timber flooring and architectural joinery to the furniture, metalwork and upholstery.

The Made-to-Measure department has been expanded and reimagined to offer a more generous and luxurious environment, while the historic Robert Gieves Room on the first floor has been transformed with a newly curated installation of artwork and archival material. Developed with Adam Ellis Studio, the display brings together imagery and ephemera tracing the evolution of Gieves & Hawkes from its origins in 1771 to the present day.

The reopening of No. 1 Savile Row marks a new chapter for Gieves & Hawkes, bringing together the traditions of Savile Row, British craftsmanship and the house’s distinctive heritage in a renewed flagship designed for both longstanding and new generations of clients.
