ANONYMITY is a Fall/Winter 2026 trailer from Maison Margiela

You Are About to Take a Plunge Into the Deepest Question “Who Are You?” Be Captivated by the Mystery, Allured by the Drama. Present “ANONYMITY”, a trailer for a psychological thriller film, starring Rebecca Hall as an actress who confronts her own identity. As she prepares for a role, the actress repeatedly comes face-to-face with her masked double. But who is real? How can we truly know ourselves? The stakes have never been higher. That is ‘ANONYMITY’.

The trailer serves as the campaign for FW26 / Fall/Winter 2026 collection, which arrives in stores and at maisonmargiela.com on September 9th.

For each encounter, Hall’s doppelganger wears the same look plus different Artisanal masks, unique pieces created in the atelier for Fall/Winter 2026 show, staged in Shanghai this April. Indeed, the anonymity of masks is a foundational code of our house, with masks used in the very first show, to focus attention away from the model onto the clothes themselves. Today, we continue to use masks as a way of exploring character and identity.

The trailer’s uncanny mood originates from the atmosphere of our Fall/Winter 2026 show, held this April in Shanghai. At the show, masked models emerged through a catwalk of stacked shipping containers, wearing pieces as if brought to life from a Parisian flea market, after hours.

Cinema has long been a part of the language at Maison Margiela. The Tokyo store in Ebisu, which opened in 2006, features a small cinema, its seats covered in white cloth. Meanwhile, in 2021 Maison Margiela presented the Artisanal collection with the movie A Folk Horror Tale, directed by Olivier Dahan. Then, in the 2022 Artisanal show, used live cameras and projections to create Cinema Inferno.

Maison Margiela Fall/Winter 2026 collection, The new-season themes featured in the trailer include Edwardian silhouettes, destroyed tapestries, second skin pieces, fused garments and assemblages of disparate materials. Tapestry material is applied to a shift dress as if furniture fabric was fluid, creating impossible draping. An Edwardian cropped tailcoat is entirely fused with a second skin jersey, excess material left attached, worn with a second skin skirt. Meanwhile, a chopped-off tailcoat is Bianchetto, painted white, worn with a Bianchetto fluid skirt that’s first painted white before being baked then cracked open.

A dress is created by fusing a fringed silk scarf and skirt with a rectangle of floral print chiffon, any excess left attached. The chiffon was then slashed into to reveal details, such as the fringes of the scarf. Another dress is as if the top of a double-layer pleat skirt has blown over the wearer’s head. There’s also a cropped knitted tank, intentionally ill-fitted, and as if nibbled at the collar and hem, worn over a second skin jersey. And then, an Edwardian riding jacket and skirt are entirely fused with velvet, any excess left hanging.

Accessories featured in the trailer include the new Link bag, which draws on the house’s initial leather goods study of round vintage coin purses. An archival chain necklace covered in silk muslin from our 2001 collection is the inspiration for the strap of the bag. It drapes across the bag when it is held as a clutch. The same utilitarian chain study is the inspiration for chain link jewellery featuring necklaces, bracelets and earrings, redeveloped by vacuum-forming leather. A tubular leather sleeve is crafted and fitted around the chain. Then, a vacuum machine extracts the air, moulding the leather around each link like a second skin. The Tabi are covered in floral motifs and tapestry, inspired by the repurposed flea market fabrics of the collection. The Tabi Claw appears in nude leather — a further extension of our second skin study. A new take on the thermoformed Box bag with ornate ceramic corner appliqués joins the 5AC Soft in a distressed 17th-century-inspired tapestry print.
