Shanghai, China, October 2026 — How do we define energy? Where does it come from? Is it something we seek from the world around us, or something that emerges from within? Amid the demands and repetitions of everyday life, we find ourselves in constant motion, drawing on our physical and emotional reserves to sustain the rhythms of our routines. Yet even the smallest, seemingly insignificant moments can quietly take their toll. For AVVENN, energy begins with self-acceptance. This belief forms the foundation of Sanctuary, AVVENN’s Spring/Summer 2027 collection.

AVVENN SS27/ Spring/Summer 2027 collection draws inspiration from the design team’s exploration of the ancient murals of the Mogao Caves in Dunhuang and the longstanding tradition of devotional offerings. Behind these murals, which have endured for over a thousand years, lies a history of donors dedicating their material resources, time and devotion to spiritual beliefs, finding in the act of giving a place for their own hopes and aspirations. For the design team, this tradition also speaks to a more personal practice: one of listening inward and reconnecting with the self. Bringing this spirit into a contemporary context, AVVENN uses fashion as a medium to offer a gentle, effortless reminder: energy can be found within, and each of us can cultivate a sanctuary of our own.

Drawing inspiration from the traces of time found in the Dunhuang murals—their weathered surfaces, peeling layers, overlapping textures and signs of erosion—the collection translates the effects of time on material into a distinctive design language. Knitwear is treated to evoke the soft pilling and textured fibers of garments worn over years. Denim is hand-brushed and spray-painted to create the appearance of wear, fading and accidental marks. Specially treated fabrics retain their natural creases and undulations, while T-shirts feature hand-painted surfaces rather than conventional prints, their softened edges recalling imagery gradually dispersed by wind, sand and time.

The traces of time are also reflected in colors infused with energy. Rather than directly reproducing the traditional hues of the Dunhuang murals, AVVENN brings together observations of the natural landscape, colors softened by time and the sensibility of a contemporary wardrobe. Sea Mist Blue, Glacial Teal, Blackberry Purple and Coral Sand form a muted spectrum that moves between cool and warm tones. Khaki, grey and beige provide a restrained, neutral foundation, allowing the palette room to breathe. Meanwhile, vivid accents of Mint Green, Ginger Yellow and Electric Blue are used sparingly, occasionally peeking through at collars, trouser hems, accessories or between layers—like sudden bursts of energy emerging from the quiet rhythm of everyday life.

The collection’s exploration of natural forms and handcrafted details continues through a collaboration with artisanal studio Art n. The resulting earrings feature two detachable silver elements that can be worn separately, their curved silhouettes recalling the shape of a crescent moon. Small mint-colored accents suggest crystalline deposits resting almost by chance upon the surface. For AVVENN, craftsmanship is not simply an ornamental addition to clothing. It is a way of allowing time, gesture and the human hand to leave a tangible presence within an object.

On the runway, these expressions of energy move beyond individual textures, colors and symbols, becoming part of the fluid reality of a modern woman’s day. Work, movement, social gatherings, moments of solitude, evenings out and meditation unfold as interconnected fragments of her everyday life. Yoga leggings, sports bras and boxing shorts emerge from layered looks, as though revealing glimpses of personal rituals and habits. Eveningwear-inspired skirts are paired with trench coats, athletic jackets and flip-flops. Lace shorts appear beneath oversized outerwear, while tank tops, fringed details and sequined skirts are juxtaposed with sportswear elements. The everyday and the extraordinary, structure and ease, embellishment and simplicity move together in a continuous exchange, establishing an effortless sense of balance. Ultimately, Sanctuary becomes a way of carrying one’s inner equilibrium through life: finding stillness within movement, remaining true to oneself while embracing the world, and maintaining a personal rhythm through the shifting roles and moments of each day. Energy need not be sought elsewhere. It arises from within.
