Accidental Cutting Spring Summer 2021 collection at London Fashion Week

ACCIDENTAL CUTTING IS PRESENTING A 3D VIRTUAL SHOW AT LONDON FASHION WEEK

Virtual fashion has been a missed opportunity for brands featuring infashion week events. ACCIDENTAL CUTTING,is the only brand that is carrying out a totally virtual show on the official London Fashion Week calendar, presenting the ‘Apocalypse’ collection – the new SS21 reality.

In the previous fashion shows, in the most important fashion weeks in the world such as those of Paris, New York, London and Milan, virtuality has been exploited by the unique ACCIDENTAL CUTTING brand based in Madrid, by the fashion designer and architect Eva Iszoro who will once again appeal to this way of creation with her new collection that will be presented again on the British catwalk.

During these unprecedented times caused by the Covid 19 pandemic, fashion and all of its processes are affected. It is a time of uncertainty and change, but also of innovation and new possibilities.

From a technological perspective, virtual fashion has become a unique opportunity. An area yet to be explored, that allows testing new ideas and exploring unattainable possibilities with the media of the physical world.Although there is already a specific 3D construction software able to trick the human eye in such a way that it is not able to distinguish real from virtual reality created with computers, there are not many designers who are daring to use it.

It is surprising that despite the current situation caused by the pandemic, brands other than ACCIDENTAL CUTTING, haven’t been tempted to explore virtual reality in the presentation of their collections. In the case of the London Fashion Week, they have been opting mostly for catwalks and presentations with real models and clothes registered digitally but not in virtual reality.

According to an article in Vogue Business dated April 4, 2019 (1) it would take approximately ten years for virtuality to fully penetrate the fashion sector. However, it was to be expected that this situation would suffer a notable turnaround from the first months of 2020, when the world has been affected by the COVID 2019 pandemic. While, from now on, the industry and some sales channels are taking advantage of the new technological leap, the presence of virtualityhas not been perceived as a new trend in the main fashion showcases and is being considered a wasted opportunity for brands, in particular for the large ones with a large amount of media available.

However, Eva Iszoro, designer of Accidental Cutting, from March 2020, has launched herself fully in the face of the great opportunities that virtual fashion provides by creating a totally virtual version of the Spring Summer 2021 collection, inspired by the situation generated by the Covid 19 pandemic and presented at London Fashion Week.

This pathway is still being explored, which completely transforms the design and prototyping processes as well as fashion communication. The brand is working on its next Fall Winter 2021/22 presentation perfecting processes and opening new doors, not only from a trademark perspective but also exploiting the artistic approach of the genesis of artworks. In this sense, it is intended to resort to effects that only virtual reality can provide, such as elimination of the force of gravity which can make models fly, use of hundreds of meters of fabric in a garment, or make people that are no longer alive parade by recreating them in three dimensions.

Eva Iszoro, is also the creator of a new experimental method of experimental pattern making: Accidental Cutting. This innovative and unique method aims to obtain original garments that have not existed before in the history of fashion. For this, random and abstract geometric shapes are introduced and they can be combined with each other or other elements, to find nonexistent volumes through abstract, random and accidental cuts and patterns. Garments made with this pattern method can be seen in both collections, however, in the new collection that is going to be presented, the weight will be heavier.
