Di Petsa SS24 / Spring Summer 2024 at London Fashion Week presents REFLECTIONS OF VENUS

My body in pieces fell apart

Ancient fragments on the floor

Floating in

Tears and sweat overflowing

Tied them together and prayed to Venus

The Di Petsa Spring Summer 2024 collection tells a story of love – both the physical love and affection one receives, but also the journey to inner self-love and divine beauty. As infants we experience what is closest to unconditional love, a baby is loved for simply existing, they are hugged and touched all over. As we grow the love we receive becomes more and more conditional on what we do, our choices, what we say – and the untouchable areas of our body expand until the only form of touch that is acceptable is a handshake.

This collection explores that sense of loss and growth, through the mythology of Aphrodite, Goddess Venus the Erotic woman archetype.

During the collection we see different reflections of Aphrodite representing different phases of the journey to self love and the Nostos of unconditional love. A broken venus is being healed.

The runway Di Petsa SS24 opens with a allegorical performance presentation of the “Birth of Venus” story, immersed within the runway space – a naked “Venus” is cocooned softly in a dreamlike state, raised above the audience on a set of organic stepping stone plinths – designed by set designer Ellie Koslowsky. As she begins to waken, her body uncoils and moves in hypnotic motions, being led by the sensual drumming of the beat – until she rises and makes her way onto the main runway space.

Here she is joined by a choir of women- led by Dimitra the designer, who caress and love upon venus in her naked state – moving in wave like motions, they huddle around her, and then the choir dress her- in a glimmering Golden metallic Wetlook dress – with rose quartz healing crystals detaias across the chest. In the act of dressing – Venus is reborn, and she emerges from the group of women who turn their back at her once she is dressed, and the procession of the runway begins.

Fragmented drapery is being tied together, dresses in a state of dress / undress that are held together by strings that wrap around the body. The runway opens with a long knitted dress, made from cotton discards are woven with golden thread in a new original textile development reminiscent of sea moss. The unraveling of straps and criss cross ties is a prevalent theme of conceal and reveal of the bare skin – we see this in dresses and trousers, with criss cross cutouts at the hips and thighs – to accentuate the form.

The silk Spring Awakening dress has been reimagined this season in a mini dress silhouette in a mint baby blue colourway, blooming flower tendrils blossom and swish as the dress is in motion.

A barely there nude halterneck mesh wetlook dress, has been intricately embroidered with raw pearl fragments – Venus decorated in nakedness. The brand collaborated with SWAROVSKI this season on a dazzling, finale long white Wetlook bridal dress that has been covered head to toe in SWAROVSKI crystals, like shiny droplets of water on the skin. New prints appear in Di Petsa Spring Summer 2024 collection featuring a collage of earthly textures of sea foam and crystals – like Venus rising from the depths of a frothy ocean.

Di Petsa SS24, new swimwear styles – with bikini sets in Nude, Maroon shiny metallic and Black are rushed and have organic hand carved gold hoop metal hardware accents – that twist and tie bikini strings around the body. In bathing suits – the cracks of a broken heart are visible in golden mesh – an illusion print is also repeated throughout the collection in lycra long dresses in white and black.

Raw healing crystals, glass beads and golden bells are incorporated into headpieces and accessories and embroidered onto clothes in the collection – clothes making ecstatic sounds.

The designer spent time sculpting a clay Wine Jug in the form of a pregnant belly reminiscent of Ancient Greek wine jugs. The music by Violet Wilson this season is leading the mood of the collection with sensual beats and is featuring poetry written and narrated by the designer reflecting on love and the birth of Venus.

Make-up this season by Crystabel Riley, using a base of natural and organic products from the Skin Food range by Weleda – the models faces are kept dewy and glowing – sun kissed shimmer and highlights, with organic pearl droplets that are placed like tears on the skin, made sustainably. The hair this season has been directed by Anna Cofone, using Oribe product to add mermaid textures and waves to the hair – creating volume and luscious ethereal silhouettes.
