For SS24, Completedworks continues its playful rebalancing of the dichotomies that define the contemporary world – the need to be both calming and unnerving, traditional and subversive, surreal and everyday.

Completedworks SS24, dynamic forms wobble and bulge with an intentional unpredictability – looking defiantly handmade and imperfect. Contrasts are calibrated to comfort. The palette reverts to neutral, imagining the tone of long languorous days when nothing much happens beyond the changing of the light across the wall of a room. Austere, yet fluid, cascades are once again put to the service of a romantic imagination.

Elsewhere, Completedworks’ continuing investigation of knots, ties and weaves is developed and reworked for the first time in pearl. Graduated pearls are assembled and knotted in irregular intensities of detail; conveying a dreamlike feel of lightness and ease, while still retaining the illusion of continuity.

For an element of intellectual playfulness and to explore a latent feeling of subdued nostalgia, we explore the surreal set design of the 1980s children’s film Honey, I Shrunk The Kids. Taking inspiration from the colossal prop fauna that loom over the actors, we imbued a selection of pieces with a similarly hyper-real and uncanny representation of flowers and petals – in so doing using an alteration of scale to simultaneously disorientate and reorientate.

The Completedworks Spring Summer 2024 presentation continues these themes with a replica of an imagined water scene which asks the viewer to take notice of the absurd through double-takes and shifting points of view.
