HOMME PLISSÉ ISSEY MIYAKE FW24 Collection titled Immersed in the Wilds of Creativity

Presented on Thursday, January 18 at Palais de Tokyo in Paris, the HOMME PLISSÉ ISSEY MIYAKE Fall Winter 2024 – 2025 COLLECTION, Immersed in the Wilds of Creativity, explores the translation of creative material into clothing design, looking at the relationship between a concept and its actual realization. It is the notion that the interpretation of creative visuals goes beyond turning them into motifs and patterns. The body of work acts as ingredients to be incorporated into the design and making of the collection, forming a harmonious creative process.

A Project with Ronan Bouroulle

This creative session between HOMMÉ PLISSE ISSEY MIYAKE and designer/artist, Ronan Bouroullec, is a project where the brand’s design team engages in working with his drawings, not just as a portfolio of work to appreciate as art, but more so as an extensive body of diverse materials to dive into and play freely with. Bouroullec’s clear understanding of the brand’s design approach and creative process, paired with many meaningful exchanges with him, have inspired HOMME PLISSÉ ISSEY MIYAKE FW24 collection.

“It was an extraordinary experience to work with the design team, where I discovered many things over the course of the creative session about what my work has in common and in contrast with their clothing design. And it is the synergy as well as the distance between us that have made this project both inspiring and rewarding.” Ronan Bouroullec

RB_DRAWING PLEATS WB features Ronan Bouroullec’s representative group of work, “Drawing”, integrated with the brand’s signature pleated fabric. The design explores the relationship between a drawing and clothing by translating the white space in the original artwork into the form of a garment. The shading of the pleats enhances the vivid, deep colors and delicate brushwork of the original painting.

RB_DRAWING SCARF is inspired by the elements depicted in Bouroullec’swork “Drawing”. The items are knitted with multi-colored yarn and have holes in considered places, allowing them to be wrapped and worn in multiple ways by passing the head or arms through them, creating wearable art.

RB_DRAWING COAT features Bouroullec’s signature paintings. The artwork is represented on the light polyester fabric, using silkscreen printing with multiple separate plates for each color, while respecting the depth of color and the subtlety of the original artwork. Both the coat and the poncho styles are designed in a simplistic way to bring out the liveliness of the original artwork to the most extent.

The three shirts of RB_EMROIDERY SHIRT are made of a naturally textured fabric and embroidered with Bouroullec’s work “Stylo-Bille” (ballpoint pen). Each style is designed to celebrate the rich, detailed colors and organic shapes of the original work. The embroidery features threadwork slightly outside the outlines of the original drawings to emphasize the dynamic expression of the artwork.

RB_ALL OVER PLEATS integrates Bouroullec’s representative group of work, “ALL OVER” with the brand’s signature pleated fabric. The original drawing is filled with countless lines, creating a pattern so lively that the wearers could imagine immersing themselves in, as opposed to viewing it at a distance. To incorporate the drawings into clothing, the shoulders, sleeves, and hems have been extended so that the garment can be draped over the body.

RB_STYLO-BILLE CUSHION COAT features a patch style pocket which the garment can be folded into, creating a functional cushion. The Gobelins weave expresses “Stylo-Bille”, a specific work of art drawn by Bouroullec using a ballpoint pen. As a cushion, the colors of the work are replicated as per the original drawing, and when worn as a coat, the colors are inverted, offering a different color scheme.

OVERFLOW emphasizes the shapes and silhouettes created in RB_ALL OVER PLEATS in a palette of solid colors. Like its printed counterpart, this voluminous garments can be worn over the body, or spread out to allow for more dynamic movement.
