Jason Wu Collection SS25 at New York Fashion Week

Jason Wu Collection SS25 / Spring Simmer 2025 at New York Fashion Week entitled ink. “the quality of lasting and remaining unchanged”.

Jason Wu Collection SS25 / Spring Simmer 2025, This season’s Jason Wu Collection is a celebration and collaboration with Chinese artist Tong Yang-Tze. Tong (born 1942, Shanghai; lives and works in Taipei), one of the most influential artists of her generation, is renowned for her Chinese calligraphy in monumental scale, pushing the artform’s boundaries by engaging with three-dimensional space. Her work emphasizes calligraphy’s significance in Chinese cultural identity and how its visual and emotional impact reaches beyond linguistic barriers. Tong, at 82, will be the first Asian artist to create works for The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Great Hall Commission this November. “It is an extraordinary honor to be able to partner with Ms. Tong, who I greatly admire and has been an inspiration for me throughout my creative journey. To translate the spirit of her work into a collection that not only embodies my definition of identity and our shared heritage, is a personal milestone.” Wu adds “ The central theme of the collection is timelessness that exemplifies fashion’s vital role in connecting the dots between heritage, contemporary culture, and craft. I have always championed the notion of fashion being more than clothes—it is about preserving a moment in time in a form of creative artistry.”

The runway’s centerpiece is a bespoke design by Elise Co, designer and technologist at Aeolab and ArtCenter College of Design, in collaboration with artist Ben Borden. Jason Wu Collection SS25 / Spring Simmer 2025, Inspired by the theme INK, it explores the possibilities for transformation through modularity. A graphical silhouette of dispersing ink was sampled, re-composed, and transformed into a 21-foot-high structure titled “INK 01 / 6A 6B 6C.” This sculpture, made from precision-cut sheet steel and mounted within a scaffolding frame, allows models to move around and through it. Underwritten by Mary and David Martin/MADWORKSHOP, a nonprofit supporting socially-valuable design projects led by creatives, this installation highlights the interplay between the digital, architectural, and the art world.
