Altuzarra Fall/Winter 2025 / FW25 at New York Fashion Week
With the Fall/Winter 2025 collection, Altuzarra continues to explore the idea of a modern wardrobe, where the utilitarian mingles with the precious, the refined with the raw.
This season marks a tonal shift for the brand, focusing not on a narrative but on a singular, compelling character—a woman who wears her history as armor and is not afraid to display her scars. While Altuzarra’s sensuality and romanticism endure, they are redefined by a raw, defiant edge. This character is deeply connected to her past but refuses to let it define or constrain her, embodying a fearless, unapologetic spirit.
Softness and vulnerability contrast with overt sexuality and strength. Drawing on the eighties (think post-punk New Romantics), Altuzarra FW25/ Fall/Winter 2025 collection opens with an elongated cape coat and voluminous balloon pants. Outerwear envelops and conceals, from double-faced wool coats with integrated scarves to patchworked shearling jackets punctuated with jumbo pockets. Dresses play with transparency, ranging from shirred bodycon silhouettes to billowy, nightgown-esque chiffon. Sculptural cowl necks nod to matadors, a continuation of the Spanish inflection from last season.
The Altuzarra FW25 collection is a map of this woman’s loves and losses. Rich jewel tones mingle with quieter pinks and nudes, while silk garments are nipped at the waist and accentuated with shoulder pads. Fragile crystal embroidery becomes subverted in giant proportions, transforming into shield-like studs. The result is exquisite chaos. While past collections leaned on expansive, thematic inspirations, this season turns inward, drawing from deeply personal artifacts: letters, mementos, diaries. Smudged kisses resemble marks left on a napkin. Botanical prints evoke dried flowers, lovingly preserved or hastily sketched in a notebook. Both speak to long forgotten intimacies.
There’s a sense of domestic nostalgia at play as well. An inky tortoiseshell print was inspired by Altuzarra’s own keepsake box. A horse print draws from Japanese folding screens one would find in a home. The creased detailing in dresses, carried over from last season, conjured the images of garments long tucked away in a cabinet, “like something that had been left in a cabinet for years,” Altuzarra says.
Jewelry, a growing focus for the brand, emphasizes strong, organic shapes with sculptural allure. Accessories possess the charm of heirlooms–most notably, a scaled down version of the popular ‘Origami’ Bag, trimmed with fringes and studs. New additions include an elongated ‘Drawstring Pouch’ in nappa and printed python, a ‘Knot Basket’ tote woven from straw and suede, and the patchwork ‘Drum’ Bag.
