AREA Spring/Summer 2027 / SS27 at New York Fashion Week
AREA SS27 / Spring/Summer 2027 show at New York Fashion Week felt like a moment of transition for the New York label. Presented on Sunday, September 13 at 11 a.m. at The Edison Ballroom on 240 W 47th Street in Manhattan, the collection arrived as an official runway show rather than a presentation.
For a brand known for its highly distinctive approach to glamour, this season also marks a change behind the scenes. AREA was founded in 2014 by Beckett Fogg and Piotrek Panszczyk, but Panszczyk left his position as creative director in February 2025. Fogg remains CEO, while Nicholas Aburn has taken over the creative direction. His background includes Tom Ford and Alexander Wang, followed by a position as Senior Designer at Balenciaga Couture. Originally from Maryland, Aburn studied at Central Saint Martins.
Nicholas Aburn is not approaching AREA as something that needs to be completely rebuilt. Instead, his intention is to introduce a different character while reconnecting the label with its New York roots. That shift is particularly interesting because AREA has always existed somewhere between fashion and fantasy, combining elaborate design and costume-like elements with pieces that can actually live beyond the runway.
The business itself reflects that wider approach. AREA is not simply a runway label producing statement pieces for editorials. The brand also operates as a retail business, continuing to make denim, T-shirts and tank tops alongside its more experimental designs. Those everyday pieces remain an important part of what AREA is.
In AREA SS27 / Spring/Summer 2027, the familiar glamour of AREA does not disappear. It feels more open to something stranger and more spontaneous, with a sense of fantasy that does not necessarily require the wearer to dress entirely within that world. That balance may be one of the more interesting things to watch as Nicholas Aburn begins shaping the next chapter of AREA.
