Kim Shui Spring/Summer 2027 / SS27 at New York Fashion Week

September 11, 2026 (New York, NY), Kim Shui SS27 / Spring/Summer 2027 explores the varying layers of performance-one that exists in nature, theater, fashion, and everyday life.

Drawing from the visual vocabulary and expressive gestures of Peking Opera, Kim Shui SS27 / Spring/Summer 2027 collection explores how adornment and gesture become a language of emotion, drama, and transformation. Details like Lingzi- extra-long pheasant tail feathers attached to performers’ headdresses that extend dramatically from the body-are reinterpreted. Traditional Peking Opera performers use highly controlled movements of the head and body to make the feathers wave, quiver, and circle, expressing emotion and amplifying their character. This idea extends into the natural world, where birds of paradise and peacocks use feathers, color, and movement to create elaborate displays of attraction and distinction. Across nature and theater, movement and adornment become forms of expression.

Kim Shui SS27 / Spring/Summer 2027 collection translates this through feathers, fringe, saturated color, sculptural headwear, draping, embroidery, and exaggerated proportions. Long strands of fringe extend the body into motion. Sheer lace, transparency, cutouts, and ornament move between concealment and exposure, while corseted bodices, structured collars, brocade, and intricate embroidery bring a sense of ceremony and restraint. With oversized headpieces, scale becomes an expression of balance and strength-allowing the woman to take up space, while the weight carried on the head speaks to resilience and the ability to move with confidence and grace. Traditional forms are disrupted through reimagined proportions, creating a tension between restraint and sensuality.

Then there is New York-the city itself is the stage. The street becomes the runway, an everyday theater where people dress, move, pose, and transform themselves. Ancient forms of spectacle and natural forms of beauty are not confined to the past; they continue to exist around us, refracted through the city. Across nature, theater, fashion, and the city, the collection finds a shared language in the ways we adorn, transform, and reveal ourselves.
