There was a time not too long ago that the idea of the future seemed to stir up excitement instead of existential dread. We thought by now that we would be living in a world with flying cars, smart closets, and that the world around us would be dripping in zany technicolour. The idea of the future signified limitless innovation and advancement beyond our wildest dreams.

The polarity between the expectation and reality of society’s progression led George Trochopoulos to reexamine the work of retrofuturist designers of the mid 20th century and gave him a newfound appreciation for the era. The groundbreaking work of that time contained a magic and expansiveness that today we collectively yearn for. In the same vein, Trochopoulos thought back to his early days of making and selling garments fresh off of his studies in London and reminisced about what that younger version of himself envisioned his future would hold. Today, as he enters a new chapter of maturation, Trochopoulos taps into the spirit of naivety and wonder he had at the brand’s start to inform its becoming..

“This collection is an homage to my customers; the first girls who bought the striped dresses I made in university and helped me believe that this could be possible. SS27 looks back at everything we have made in the past. Bringing together the silhouettes, ideas and visual language that have shaped my identity as a designer and refining them as a way of concluding this first chapter of the brand.” – George Trochopoulos

During this period of expansion, joy is paramount. This season is drenched in head-turning hues; think lime green, racecar red, melon yellow, paired in vibrant colour combinations that make onlookers do a double take. The collection is almost entirely knit, save for a pair of Trochopoulos jeans reworked and styled alongside draped jersey tops with floral prints hand-drawn by the designer.

A cornerstone of the collection is expanding the notion of what constitutes ‘everyday knitwear’. Knit bikinis are layered under sheer coverups that scoop low and stretch beyond their functionality. Shapes are emboldened, with the neck being a focal point. Collars on striped mini dresses, bodysuits, and figure-clinging slinky dresses range from asymmetric to funnel-like, subverting how Trochopoulos’ designs highlight the body.

This season, the bubble skirt introduced in SS26 morphs into a petal skirt, intentionally designed to increase fluidity of movement and ease for the wearer. SS27 is a celebration of the euphoria that can happen in tandem with growth. Since the inception of the brand, Trochopoulos has created every garment in-house- and at times in his flat- with a team never exceeding three, with an unwavering commitment to the tactile. The intimacy of his practice has allowed Trochopoulos to foster a relationship with his craft and language that is almost second nature.
