What is desire? For Spring/Summer 2027, Francesca Liberatore explores the need for variable rewards that sustains and excites us across different spheres: socially, materially and personally. What, for a child, is the joy of an unexpected surprise becomes, in adults constantly seeking gratification, a mechanism in which unpredictability drives persistent behaviours. The phenomenon of “Blind Boxes” takes to the runway.

Eight models open the presentation, each wearing one of eight iconic jackets from the Francesca Liberatore 2010–2020 archive: all black, all paired with nude. But here comes the surprise: they are enclosed in human-sized blind boxes, ready to be discovered and desired by the passionate collector. A dopamine rush that, thanks to the renewed partnership with Sony, once again comes together with the 1000XM6 headphones, presented across the full colour spectrum as acoustic interferences translated into fashion. A journey concealed and then revealed, between anticipation and unveiling, but also a generational dialogue between adults and children, each with their own imaginative references.

While the women of SS27 Liberatore walk the runway in printed cotton suits and dresses, dominated by bold tones and pop motifs, the children’s looks, created as part of an exciting collaboration with Chinese brand ASK, feature technical fabrics and jacquards evoking angels and UFOs, planets and galaxies: imagery through which the designer encourages an imaginative gaze towards the sky.

Once again taking place inside a school, Educandato Statale Emanuela Setti Carraro, now the fourth school chosen by the designer, reaffirming a message that is particularly close to her, Liberatore creates a bridge between childhood and adulthood, a visionary exchange that celebrates codes and symbols. An exceptional knitwear offering, featuring intarsia and jacquard techniques, becomes precious to both worlds, with pixelated graphics in shades of brown, bright green, light blue and burgundy, echoing the magnificence of the building’s interiors.

The two-dimensional becomes three-dimensional according to use and movement, giving rise to skirts that shift their proportions around the body, opening up to new possibilities. The bomber jackets remain an unmistakable signature of the Maison: oversized and soft, doubled in printed and striped fabrics.

A freedom of interpretation that seeks to break away from conventional associations of proportions and colour combinations. The message is clear: beyond the commercial phenomenon of blind boxes, which draws its appeal from the excitement of anticipation, desire for Francesca Liberatore is a productive and creative force, one capable of generating realities and creating connections between things, people, feelings, ideas and contexts.
